At the end of March there were detected trace amounts of cesium and iodine in Lisbon by the station at Sacavém. Milk, soil, vegetables, sea, running water, clothes, food items, skin, nothing escapes the atomic particles left over from a chain reaction of nuclear fission.
CESIUM-137
Its radioactivity lasts a few decades. It easily enters the food chain through milk and vegetables and it increases the risk of several cancers.
IODINE-131
It remains radioactive for only a few days. It concentrates in the thyroid, causing mutations in the cells of this gland. It may also cause cancer.
Other radioactive atoms:
Plutonium-239
It emits radiation for thousands of years and it is very toxic and dangerous if inhaled. Its effects are noticeable mainly in the lungs.
STRONTIUM-90
It remains in the environment for decades. It concentrates in bones and teeth. It increases the risk of bone cancer and leukemia.

Jeeezzzuuuussss! How frightening! Why haven't we heard this in the news???
Keep up the good work,
Alex
It is sad to know that although nuclear power gives so much energy it also causes a lot of problems and it is scaring that the radiation emited is so close to us, because it can bring us many health issues.
