It was a very strange meteorological phenomenon that unfortunately caused a lot of damages specially on cars and houses but it also affected the life of many people. Ana Freitas, 11ºF
I was in Benfica when everything happened, and I have to say it was quite impressive, not only by the noise but also by the amount of hail on the streets.
It was really something of another world, amazing but yet scary. I wasn't there when it happened but I know people who were and they said that was a "lifetime story". The sky began to look grey and green, it rained a little and then, one minute later, everything was like this. There's not too much to say, but this might be a sign that something's really wrong. It's time to change, really change
It was really quite strange that in just one hour of rain the roads and not only contain large hail heights. The fall of hail caused extensive damage primarily in Damaia. Bruna Ferreira nº4 11F
It's amazing how the weather changes so quickly, and how a beautiful sunny day turns into a white hail blanket and in an unexpected flood. I hope this is just a small incident that confirms the saying: "April, rainy season", and not another proof that Portugal is suffering a dramatic climate change, in such a short space of time.
I clearly remember that during the first week of the Easter holidays the weather was almost like a Summer weather and all of a sudden things changed completely: the temperature went drastically down and it started raining a lot.
The weather has been so inconsistent in the last few years and it's getting more and more like that.
This picture is a prime example of how the weather has been. Clearly, there's something wrong out there.
"This meteorological phenomenon brought us the idea that nowadays, due to our irresponsible behavior, it is really easy to change dramatically the weather conditions, as if from night to day. It is really concerning because phenomenons like these may be a source of problems for everyone, because it may destroy houses and many important buildings. The truth is that if we do not start paying attention at these phenomenons we will never realise that the real source of the is us..." Pedro Farinha
I have to agree with the other propõe comenting this post, i was nearby, and i have to admit i was quite scared with all the hail falling on my car and pilling on the street around me...
This advent caught my attention straight away because it is a really unusual situation about which I hadn't even heard. After doing some research, I found out that the last time it snowed, in Lisbon, was five years ago. However, the last time it snowed before that was fifty years ago. There must be a reason for this gap to have changed so radically. The way I see it, this change was caused by global warming, because, even though our geographic position makes it hard to snow in Lisbon, it has been happening with a much bigger frequency. That really was bizarre.
