It´s Poisoning Down

Granny keeps telling stories
Of how she used to go
Walking in the pouring rain
And playing in the snow.
She talks of things called flowers.
She says they had nice smells.
(Sometimes she sounds convincing,
The crazy fibs she tells!)
She says that lakes and rivers
Were once all clean and pure,
But I don´t believe a word,
I´ve heard it all before.
Poor Gran can be quite dotty -
You want to see Mum frown
When she tries to get outside
Even though it´s poisoning down.

In a certain way, this poem corresponds to my expectations once it says, in the end, that it's poisoning down, which means that acid rain is falling down, contributing in a negative way to the world, leading to it's destruction.

Yes, it corresponds to my speculation. I said that, once the blog is about the environment, that excerpt of the poem made me think of the acid rain and, as we can see, that’s one of the subjects of the poem. There’s some other details but, in general, I think I understood the message right away. It’s quite a dramatic point of view I must say, but if we keep on doing what we have been doing all these years maybe we will relate to this poem some years from now.

The poem corresponded to my expectations, once it talks about a grandmother who used to live in a pure and beautiful place, and she still believes that nothing has changed, which is completely untrue once acid rain, that wasn't a reality in the old times, pours down.

Yes, i understood the message of the poem. I said it was about acid rain and its harmfull consequences to people and as we can see that's what it really talks about.

I understood the poem and i know that if we don't change our actions the future will be as the poem describes it.

Well, my first ideia about the stanza was more focused on acid rains. However, it seems to me that after reading all the poem, I've completely changed my mind. It is deeply connected with global warming and not only with acid rains. This is just an opinion, but I may be wrong. A poem has multiple meanings...

The poem indeed matched my expectations. Just by reading the title i thought of pollution, and indirectly about the acid rains. As it is stated in the poem, the author doesn't believe in granny because she's "blinded" by her own eyes. She lives in a different world, and can't see the truth within the world outside, whihc is polluted by acid rains. The author says he's heard it all before. I think he's trying to say that he's tired of listening to people's dreams and watch them doing nothing. As a matter of fact, it is exactly what's happening in today's world. People talk a lot but they never act, or they are just as carefree as "an animal stalking his prey and the being eaten by a bigger predator". If we don't do something quickly, we might as well say that the world will suffer a drastic transformation.

This poem shows a conversation, in the future, between a grandmother and a grandson. She tries to show the kid how the world was when there wasn't pollution, when rivers were clean, and there were flowers and people could enjoy their smell. This poem shows us how our world will be if we don´t have the necessary care and do nothing to help the environment. Our attitudes won´t be harmful just to us but also to our children.

The poem speaks of how the Earth was once clean and beautiful.
In modern times, almost everything that was beautiful is ruined, or lack of tatamento or carelessness on the part of the population worldwide.
I agree with the poem, because I saw firsthand, the sights that met beatifull and today are spoiled, not only by acid rain but also by pollution.

this talks about the nature around «Granny» and how she remembered it. Eventhough it was poisoning down she tried to get outside. The author doen´t believe in a word «Granny» told him although, sometimes, she sounds convincing.

In my oppinion the subject matter in this poem may seem a bit exagerate
but this hard facts aren´t soo outlying as we may think.Probably if thinks continue in this course, in the future we wouldn´t be able to go outside without any protections.

The poem talks about an old lady telling stories to her grandchildren about how beautiful nature used to be before the acid rain ate it all away. The kids don’t believe their granny, because probably when they were born, nature wasn’t beautiful anymore, so they think that there is no way a flower could smell good or that the rain was just soft drops of water falling from the skies.

That’s a difficult point of view to us that are used to play in the snow, to walk in the pouring rain, to see flowers and clean and pure rivers but the truth is the planet as already showed us the power of the nature. So yes, the poem corresponded to my speculations.
